Welcome to a new year where we all say it with joy courage faith and enthusiasm. Its a new year but the days will remain the same we will have the Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Friday Saturday and Sunday in a week. The total number of months in this year will remain as 12. We will remain the same as we were in 2011. see, if you were male you will not be female unless you ask some doctors to perform some experiments on your living specimen.
What's my point?
You will agree with me that the circumstances will most certainly remain the same as they were in the previous year. But our expectations are very high if not different. This for many is a short term experience as they tend to go off track by repeating the same mistakes they did before.
This time round I've not seen people tweet or post on facebook about their new year resolutions. What I've experienced is jokes around these three words ''new year resolutions''. The fact that you did not tell it to me doesn't entirely mean that you didn't make some. You made them internally, and for fear of being victimised as one who wont fulfil the promise, you decide to resolute internally. Which is a good thing. Before we can make the new resolutions we need to take a step back and look at what our past year achievements were. What were our success stories, what did we do wrong that made us not achieve objective 17 on the 20 list of year 2011 resolutions!
A review of our performance is a key factor in determining how to plan our objectives and how best to achieve them. The mistake we make is to quickly forget our failures without learning a thing from them. Remember, your success story has a failure background. I was thinking through these things and some things clicked in my head. Interesting enough when I went to church on Sunday the Pastor kind of blew them open to me in three points.
It's a new year and the following are the things we need to implement for us to achieve our objectives/resolutions.
- Its a new season where we must approach it with;
- A new attitude and;
- A new focus
It is only insane people that I've seen put on new clothes when their bodies are dirty. When you purchase something new and you've to show it off you yourself must also exercise some newness, posture and composure when showing it off. Otherwise, people will quickly conclude that ''It's not yours''. So lets renew ourselves as we welcome the new season 2012. This can only be done by also reviewing and renewing our attitude. A negative attitude is same as a No-attitude. Lets cultivate positive attitude. Don't look at yourself as a passenger all through; wear the shoes of the driver and lead others. Don't always be the messenger; strive to be the message author. Stop dwelling too much on your failures and appreciate the success stories of your life. See yourself as a winner; the population is too busy to appreciate you. So do it yourself. It is called Self esteem.
A new focus is indeed what is going to make you a different person this year. A good/positive attitude with no focus is like putting a blind person in the middle of a well lit building and telling them to walk out. Listen to your heart, list what you want to do, plan how you want to do it and finally 'Just do it'. You have no one to stop you, you can only be your own stumbling block. Why would you want to do that? Be a hunter (lioness) - identify the target and go for it; As you chase the target remember you will meet similar targets on the way. Do not give up and focus on the new target, you will require new energy to start again. The current target is very very near, ignore the similar targets first. When the prey gets tired the lioness has the entire time to enjoy the meal. From here you will reflect on some of the similar targets that you saw along the way; the pain you went through when chasing the first target will assist you in planning on how to easily get it bigger and right the next time.
Remember, the circumstances may remain the same but your achievements will be based on the above lessons. You never know, the season may come sooner than expected.
Remember to invite me for coffee when you open the champagne.
Ernie Your boy!
