What has Twitter done to me ??

Social networking is facebook, twitter, myspace.com, hi5 hmmmn i think am wrong; those are websites. Today i woke up and tuned in to 93.3 hope fm my newly found radio station (after dumping Maina Kageni and his tabia mbaya); and the discussion today was to do with internet marketing. The story touched on social networking and what the panel mentioned to me made me think otherwise - social networking is found in Internet Forums. Period!

Trust me if you get into any forums over the web, you get to socialize with quite a number of people with different views on varied topics. The days when information was held with the very few individuals who would charge you a fee 'consultation' are easily getting out of sight --- unless if we are talking matters related to medical complications e.g. diarrhea, diabetes, food poisoning..you know..stuff like that!

So then what have i learnt through social media (not networking). Through social media....facebook, twitter and the likes i've exposed myself to too much information that am almost lost .... well i wont allow myself to get lost. I got to know of facebook while in campus...and i could do then was write an update, comment and later poke, poke, poke-back, poke and yeah inbox buddies. Later i realised well i can as well show of my pictures...tag them and mention people in them. I carried the same behaviour into my first and second career..I worked with facebook on my sideplate.

Honestly there was little i got from it other than fun from humourous posts by friends and foes. later people began to advertise on facebook; i thought yeah good idea. Being an IT techie i thought yes here i can sell myself. So i went to advertisers page...I saw what Kenyans don't like see - 'Select payment method'. That was the last i went there...(Kenyans like freebies but i think its just human).

By this time twitter was actually up and running but i didn't even bother to open an account. None of my friends were on twitter then. But then, there was an american of Kenyan origin that wanted to be president of some country....he was a senator by then (i think he originates from Kogello). This is the man who made me join twitter. I am a fan of CNN. I used to watch CNN everyday and at one point i saw stuff on tv that Obama was reaching out to most americans via twitter. So i sought to find out what twitter is all about. I opened an account and all i could see is Follow, following. It never made sense then but i thought that it is keeping track of someones movements and actions -- i was right somehow. So my first person to follow was Barrack Obama and my first follow was Senator Barrack Obama. I will make sure i dedicate my 5000th tweet to you.

From then on i could log onto twitter once in three months or even 4 months. It was until the year 2010 when i realised the power of twitter. Twitter has really changed me tremendously. I have followed very interesting tweeps who post very interesting and mixed posts on my TL (TIMELINE). (i also learnt what trending topics are sometime in November 2010).

So i decided i will follow people of different professions, from journalists, comedians, bloggers, writers, you name them. This people have fed me with information that i have never thought of stumbling upon. Things i've never met on facebook.

People are very open on twitter, they tell it as it is; not like facebook where a simple comment can land you in trouble with your ex-girl friend or some gal somewhere who is secretely eyeing you.

I've learned to interact with the mighty and the mighty - no one is small on twitter (Yes i just said that).
It is 19:14PM and am still in the office because i had to write this post; and it is because of twitter. Take a test if you have a facebook and twitter account. Post the same update on the two asking for something like direction, or where to find abcd! Trust me - You are sure to get your first accurate answer on twitter than on facebook. On facebook it will turn into an entertaining scene -- ''kwani hujui....we rudi mashinani'' or ''use google maps'' or worse ''kwani you use kabambe''.

People on twitter are mature; those who misbehave are categorically referred back to #mkz Mukuru Kwa Zukerberg -- facebook.
I have twitter app on my windows sidebar -- it is very important and trust me it doesnt affect my performance in the office. I call it my updates trailer. every new stuff pop up every minute sometimes I get to update peeps in the office on whats happening around us; things that can be affecting the company operations negatively or positively. Am not ashamed to tell our CEO - that I saw guys tweeting stuff about our company - this i do in our HODS meetings.

ok kwani simalizi kuandika.......

you know what...Power just disappeared..and i have to log onto to twitter and write to @kenyapower.....

But you need to be careful how you socialise ....requires discipline to do it the right way.
It is good and very good; but BE CAREFUL!

If there are any grammatical errors please know i did not go through this post before posting.

My twitter handle is @endinya

Follow me, I will follow you back.
